BALLET POINTE COURSE

Dancing on your toes requires tremendous strength of the legs and feet and dedication - how do you know when you're ready for pointe?

1. Do you have at least 3 years of Ballet training?

In order to be able to dance on pointe, a dancer must have had time to achieve the form, strength, and alignment needed to make a successful transition into pointe work. Proper technique is required to be able to properly rise on the toes without risks of injury.

2. Are you attending 2 or 3 Ballet classes each week?

In order to maintain proper technique and flexibility needed for pointe work, it is important to practice ballet formally at least twice a week.

3. Are you physically ready?

Our teacher will check for correct body position and alignment, sufficient turnout, strength and balance, and mastery of basic ballet techniques.

Pointe is hard work! Beginning pointe classes will be more demanding on your body, especially your feet.  If you are ready for this level of commitment to learn this beautiful art form then register for our course now.

City Dance Ballet Pointe Course : 25 February - 5 April 2012

Participants are required to attend a minimum of two pointe classes per week, and in total 10 classes over the six week period. A certificate of attendance will be awarded to those participants who attend 10 classes.

This course is suitable for Beginner Level 2 (advanced beginners) and over

Fees:  $140 adult   |  $120 student/beneficiary

Use your Concession Card or pay the standard casual fee $15.50 or $13.50 (students) per class

Classes are on: Wednesday 7.30pm  |  Thursday 1.30pm  | Saturday 1.30pm

You can do any of these classes, but a minimum of two classes per week must be attended to obtain the certificate.

You will need to purchase pointe shoes before starting the course - we recommend you visit Pure Dance (Queens Arcade, Queen Street, CBD) or The Dancers Wardrobe (Remuera); both stores have trained staff who can help you choose and fit the right shoe for your foot; they will also show you how to attach the ribbons and elastic. Do not buy your first pair of pointe shoes from an online store, you must do this in person so they can be fitted properly.

In the first lesson of the course we will show you how to tie your shoes properly to your feet, however we also recommend you also watch the following two clips:
